Newly-elected Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has chosen his second official visit overseas to be Egypt and this is a strong message in itself, Philenews reported.
As for the President himself, he told journalists in Cairo on Wednesday after holding talks with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah Al Sisi: “Egypt is my second visit after Greece and this has both a symbolic and a lot more a substantial importance.
“(Because) it reflects our clear political will to further strengthen our cooperation, what we consider a strategic partnership.”
Moreover, Christodoulides and Al Sisi together sent the message that the two countries will continue to walk hand in hand and cooperate both to address regional challenges as well as those at large.
Of particular importance is the mutual support offered from one country to the other, Cyprus within the EU and Egypt within the Islamic Conference, Christodoulides also said.
He then underlined the importance of energy cooperation between the two neighbors – something that had initially pushed the two countries to strengthen ties, afterall.
The two leaders also agreed to hold the next Summit between the two governments in Cyprus in September.
