Rabat – An Algerian pilgrim killed two other Algerian pilgrims inside their residence in Saudi Arabia on Monday.
According to Algerian reports, the murder occurred after the three fought in one of the holiest sites in the Islamic religion Mecca Al-Mukarramah.
The perpetrator was apprehended by Saudi security forces, Algerian media An-Nahar Online reports, adding that official Algerian Hajj authorities are yet to confirm the news.
The Murder inside Mecca is unprecedented, as performing the Hajj rituals is considered the most pious of Islamic acts, and pilgrims are religiously required to observe their behavior at all times while performing the Hajj rituals.
Hajj rituals are meant to promote bonds of Islamic brotherhood and sisterhood and remind Muslims that everyone is equal in the eyes of God.
Rituals mostly revolve around the principle that both early life and the afterlife are of equal importance. Pilgrims are required to strip away all markers of social status, and wealth as they perform the Hajj rituals.
While performing rituals, pilgrims wear simple white clothes known as Ihram. The Hajj is widely viewed as a rebirth, as it marks an important transition in the life of a Muslim.
