Tunisia’s Nouvelair will launch a new route between the Tunisian capital and Milan on July 17 as part of its enhanced summer schedule.
Earlier this year, the airline announced its plans to add 11 new routes to its regular network and extend its operations to several destinations. The route development strategy commenced in March with new European destinations and will continue with more connections and an enhanced schedule going into Summer 2023.
Connecting Tunis and Milan
Launching the new route between Tunis and Milan means Nouvelair will fly to Italy for the first time, allowing passengers to discover a culturally rich destination. The service will commence with two weekly return flights and an option for onward connections to other European destinations.
The 1hr 30min flights between Tunis Carthage Airport (TUN) and Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) will be operated on Airbus A320 aircraft. Although Nouvelair has its main hub at Monastir Habib Bourguiba Airport (MIR), it will fly from the capital as the demand is higher.
Nouvelair becomes the second carrier to operate flights on this route after Tunisair. The flag carrier currently operates scheduled Airbus A319 flights between Tunisia and Milan. It also connects Milan with Rome on the same flight.
Enhanced summer schedule
The new connection to Italy is the carrier’s 14th planned European route for the summer 2023 season. Last month, the airline began operating certain flights from Sfax-Thyna Airport as its fourth hub in Tunisia to give it better access to its new destinations.
Nouvelair began operating two weekly flights between Sfax and Paris CDG Airport on April 19. From June 1, it will launch two weekly flights on Mondays and Thursdays between Sfax and Istanbul. This is an effort to ensure that Tunisians living in the central and southern parts of the country have more convenient connections to France and Turkey.
Furthermore, the carrier will extend its regular service to Algeria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey. These destinations will be supported by a new “Fly Me To The World” promotion, giving passengers a great deal on return tickets.
The promotion will allow customers to access new destinations with reduced prices for return tickets from Tunisia only. It is available for tickets purchased between May 18 and May 31 and passengers traveling between May 18 and June 18.
Delivery of a new aircraft
Last week, Nouvelair announced the arrival of a nine-year-old aircraft to support its route expansion plans. It took delivery of an Airbus A320ceo with a capacity of 180 seats, bringing its A320 fleet up to 12. This is the second plane acquired this year.
As the demand for air travel in North Africa has significantly increased post-pandemic, the airline seeks to enhance its passenger and cargo capacity. It currently operates flights on 78 routes to over 40 destinations in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
A new service between Copenhagen and Tunis will be launched on September 11, with a weekly frequency. The new route will support the development of tourist traffic and air travel between the two countries while marketing Tunisia to various Danish and European tour operators.
