The number of tuberculosis patients in Tajikistan over the past decade has decreased by 3 times. This was announced by officials of the Ministry of Health of Tajikistan at the tenth international symposium on the treatment of tuberculosis in Eastern Europe and Central Asia held in Dushanbe.
The forum was attended by representatives of national programs to combat a dangerous disease, as well as specialists from the organization Doctors Without Borders.
The Ministry of Health of Tajikistan notes a decrease in the incidence of tuberculosis from 85 to 39 per 100,000 population. According to official figures, the mortality rate among TB patients is on a downward trend, with just one death per 100,000 people in the country at present. Ten years ago, according to the Deputy Director of the Republican Center for the Protection of the Population from Tuberculosis Asliddin Rajabzoda, there were seven deaths per 100,000 people in the country.
During the international forum, it was noted that Tajikistan was one of the first countries in the world to provide TB patients with access to a new treatment regimen. This scheme allows the patient to recover quickly, easily and painlessly. According to experts, if earlier the treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis took from one and a half to two years, now a six-month new course has been introduced, which does not include injections, the patient will be limited to taking pills.
In Tajikistan, according to experts, all conditions have been created for free treatment of tuberculosis. However, patients often complain that they do not have access to the necessary drugs.
Safar Naimov, after he lost two brothers with tuberculosis and contracted the disease himself, decided to create a public organization to combat tuberculosis in Tajikistan. In the organization “Cooperation in the fight against tuberculosis in Tajikistan” he works with people who have experienced this disease in the past and by their example give others hope for a cure.
“We tell them about our experience, write in the media and social networks that in case of any illness, the main thing is not to lose hope, take medicines on time and be examined by doctors. When a person tells his story of fighting tuberculosis, it has a more effective impact on other patients,” says Safar Naimov.
According to doctors, in order not to get sick with tuberculosis, it is necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle. Good health requires a healthy nervous system, so it is important to avoid stress. Food should be complete, must contain a sufficient amount of protein.
In 2022, about 4 thousand TB patients were registered in Tajikistan, 30 percent of them are children.
The Tajik authorities stated that in 2024-2026. 10 million dollars will be allocated for the treatment of tuberculosis patients from international grants. The Ministry of Health of Tajikistan believes that this contributes to an even greater reduction in the number of patients with a dangerous infectious disease.
