Ukraine expects Saudi Arabia to join the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. The agro-industrial complex and the energy sector are of common interest.
As the ambassador noted, Saudi Arabia is currently moving in line with “positive neutrality” in relation to Ukraine. On the one hand, the kingdom supports international law, provides humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, but on the other hand, it has not joined the sanctions against Russia and maintains economic relations with it.
Saudi Arabia does not provide Ukraine with weapons and military equipment, but is open to humanitarian assistance. During the visit of Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, an agreement was signed for $400 million, under which blankets, hygiene products and 135 powerful generators arrived in Ukraine in March.
Ukraine is also interested in Saudi Arabia joining the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. According to the ambassador, there are several key areas. First of all, the agro-industrial complex and energy, which are of common interest. Saudi Arabia is now working hard to ensure food security in the region, and Ukraine can help with this. At the same time, Ukraine is fighting for energy independence, and Saudi Arabia can already help in this matter.
Position of Saudi Arabia
Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud signed two documents on providing assistance to Ukraine during his visit to Ukraine in February this year . Since March of this year, at least 5 planes with humanitarian aid have been sent to Ukraine.
In May, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud declared ” active neutrality ” over Russia’s war against Ukraine. He made such a statement after the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Jeddah and his appeal to the leaders of the Arab League.
