The victory of Ukraine in the war will be the withdrawal of all Russian troops on its territory. The United States and allies will continue to support the Ukrainians for as long as it takes to defend against Russian aggression.
“We are approaching 18 months from the start of a full-scale Russian invasion. I recall the words of President Biden, who noted that the victory in the war in Ukraine will be for Russia to completely get out of Ukraine,” Patel said.
According to him, the United States supports efforts to achieve “a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, which must remain an independent, sovereign, democratic and prosperous country.”
The Deputy State Department Speaker reiterated that the US and allies will continue to support Ukraine for as long as necessary so that Ukraine can defend itself against Russian aggression and “be in the strongest position at the negotiating table when the time is right.”
Giving up territories in exchange for NATO membership
Recall that on August 15, the head of the staff of the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Stian Jenssen, said that he considers one of the “solutions” for the war to be Ukraine’s refusal of its territories in order to receive NATO membership in exchange.
He said that discussions are already ongoing about the future status of Ukraine in the context of the Alliance after the war. In particular, options are being handed out with the refusal of Kyiv from part of the territory.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Oleg Nikolenko, said that talk of Ukraine joining NATO in exchange for giving up part of Ukrainian territories is absolutely unacceptable.
Also, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, Mikhail Podolyak, said that such statements are attempts to maintain world order and establish a “bad world.” He noted that in the future Russia will not refuse to transfer the war to other generations.
However, Jennsen later said that the offer to give Ukraine part of its territories in exchange for joining the North Atlantic Alliance was a mistake .
And NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stressed that the Alliance will support Ukraine until it wins the war against Russian aggression . According to him, only Ukrainians can determine the terms of negotiations with Russia.
