Morocco, U.S.A. resolved to foster cooperation against transnational crime & terror threats

FBI Director Christopher Wray conferred on Tuesday in Rabat with Head of Morocco’s National Police and Domestic Intelligence agency Abdellatif Hammouchi on bilateral cooperation against emerging threats and security challenges related to transnational crime.

The two sides also discussed ways to disrupt the movement of terrorists through borders, the exchange of information on jihadists, address threats of chemical, biological & nuclear weapons, and expanding counter-terrorism coordination to include the Sahel-Sahara area.

The FBI chief’s visit to Morocco reflects the strength of cooperation between the Moroccan security services and U.S. law enforcement agencies within the frame of the deep strategic partnership existing between the two countries, sharing common commitment for regional peace and international stability.

This visit is the second of its kind under the joint action program set by the two parties. It comes after the visit paid by Hammouchi to the U.S. in June 2022, during which he met with Heads of U.S. National Intelligence, the CIA and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The US Department Counter Terrorism Report cites a “long history” of counter terrorism cooperation between Washington and Rabat and lauds Morocco’s “comprehensive strategy, which includes vigilant security measures, regional and international cooperation, and terrorist counter-radicalization policies.”

“Moroccan law enforcement agencies participated in a wide range of U.S.-sponsored programs to improve the country’s counterterrorism technical and investigative capabilities, including financial investigation, intelligence analysis, and cybersecurity,” said the US Department in the latest version of the report.
