U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs Michele Sison has reaffirmed Washington’s steadfast support to the Moroccan autonomy plan offered for a lasting resolution of the Sahara issue, describing the plan as “serious, credible and realistic”.
The United States continues to view the autonomy plan presented by Rabat as serious, credible and realistic, said Mrs. Sison at a press briefing held Wednesday in Rabat following her talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
The priority of the United States is to support a credible process conducive to a lasting solution to the Sahara conflict, added the U.S. Assistant Secretary.
She said her talks with Bourita focused on continued U.S. support for UN Sahara Envoy Staffan De Mistura, MINURSO’s peacekeeping efforts and the UN mission’s importance in preserving the UN-led peace process.
