Ukraine Has Installed 30 Anti-Tank Minefields and Barriers on the Border With Belarus

Over the past 10 days, on the border with Belarus, the Ukrainian armed forces have installed 30 anti-tank minefields and barriers using more than 5.8 thousand mines. This was announced by the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergey Naev. His words were published in the telegram channel of the command.

In addition, about five thousand meters of trenches and 6.5 thousand meters of anti-tank ditches were equipped along the border, 80 slots, shelters and firing positions for personnel and firing positions for heavy equipment were created.

“Warning the penetration of enemy sabotage groups and the crossing of the border by armored vehicles, we set up appropriate minefields,” he said. “We understand that we will not need the border line with our northern neighbors in civilian form for a long time, since we have no friends on the other side of the border. Therefore, the task was set to make the border strip impassable for the enemy.”

Ukraine has been strengthening its defensive line on the border with Belarus and Russia since last year. In autumn, in the Volyn, Rivne and Zhytomyr regions on the border with Belarus, they began to build engineering barriers. The deputy head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Timoshenko, then said that this was not all, but the details would not be disclosed. In addition, as he said, fortifications are being built in the regions bordering Russia.

On June 30, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a meeting of the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief instructed the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny and Sergey Naev to strengthen the northern direction . It was reported that the participants of the headquarters heard a separate report on the situation in Belarus. This meeting took place after Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of PMC Wagner, attempted to rebel, and after Alyaksandr Lukashenka announced on June 27 that Prigozhin was in Belarus.

On July 4, Naev announced that due to the events around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, a decision was made to strengthen the northern border with both personnel and military equipment. “Work in this direction has not stopped since the enemy was driven out from the north, and continues around the clock. Anti-tank barriers are being built, minefields are being equipped and the entire defense line is being strengthened,” he wrote.

On July 10, Naev conducted a check of defense capabilities within the Zhytomyr, Rivne and Volyn directions. He said that “in the near future, the threatening directions will be more tightly covered by appropriate engineering barriers.”
